Airlines

Well, we have had the opportunity to fly on many airlines this summer alone. I hit 11 airports in June. But I never saw anything as impressive as Thai Airways.

I am all for efficiency. I love to make things flow and get things done quickly. I often stress myself out too much about making sure everything is efficient. Well, I was very impressed with the Asians efficiency. You know how often on a short flight in the US they serve a drink and maybe give peanuts or crackers. Well, on this 1hr. 10min. (including take off and landing) flight they served a whole meal! Not just a regular quick meal, but they poured wine, coffee, tea, even seconds (anything that you would be offered on a 6-7 hour flight). Then to top it all off they handed out pink orchids and had 10 minutes to spare!

They really worked like machines, but I also was impressed with their smiles. I have noticed lately that the majority of airlines have frustrated flight attendants. Even to the point of throwing insults. Two comments I heard in my travels, a female to a young adult male passenger, "are you saying I am stronger than you?" and "can't you tell that I am busy?". But even that time that the airplane lurched and the Thai attendants almost spilt, after the shock the smile was plastered back on their face again. There is a politeness that still exists in this part of the world that is quickly be lost in many other parts of the world where I have recently lived and traveled.
